abstract
effects of using n-3 hufa-enriched artemia and non-enriched artemia as the starter food for growth and survival of rainbow trout larvae compared to commercial concentrated food were investigated in this study. the larvae with average weight of 92.9 mg were fed for 20 days with four food treatments included of commercial concentrated food, newly hatched artemia, enriched artemia, and mixture of enriched artemia and concentrated food. at the end of experiment, the highest weight gain percentage was 104.4% in those larvae fed with enriched artemia (p< 0.05). the highest survival rate was 96.5 % observed in larvae fed with mixture of enriched artemia and commercial concentrated food (p

Rainbow trout are classified as Oncorhynchus mykiss, and as such belong to the same genus as Pacific salmon, and to the family Salmonidae, which includes Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), various trout (Salvelinus sp.), Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus), Arctic grayling (Thymallus arcticus) and whitefish (Coregonus sp.). Rainbow trout are native to areas around the North Pacific Ocean, from souther...
full textEffects of Artemia powder in Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) broodstock diet on the egg quality
Rainbow trout is one of the most important cultured species in Iran. Despite the progressively increased production of this species during the last decade, there have been many egg quality problems in the hatcheries yet. Thus, in this research we investigated the effects of adding Artemia powder to broodstock diet on Rainbow trout egg quality. Fishes were fed commercial diet for four months, th...
full textEffects of dietary selenomethionine on larval rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss).
Increased selenium (Se) concentrations in water (>10 microg/L) have been measured in the San Diego Creek, which is a tributary of the Upper Newport Bay in Orange County, CA. The objective of this study was to develop tissue- and dietary-based thresholds for Se in resident fish species in San Diego Creek. A 90-day dietary experiment was conducted to determine the effects of seleno-L-methionine (...
full textEnrichment of Artemia nauplii with essential fatty acids and vitamin C: effect on rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) larvae performance
The effect of essential fatty acids (EFA) and vitamin C-enriched Artemia nauplii on growth, survival, and resistance to temperature (high) stress in rainbow trout larvae reared in tanks were investigated. The larvae (average weight 120.43mg±13.5) were fed 6 times daily starting at the onset of exogenous feeding for 1 week. Triplicate groups of fish were offered one of four treatments (1) commer...
